In 1997 model, GLT meant the light pressure turbo (push the output to 190HP instead of the N/A engine, 168HP) not the original full blown turbo(22x HP). I am not sure whether rear sway bar was standard in light pressure turbo. Did you purchase the car from Volvo dealer as used or new? If it is then you can talk to the dealer about this issue, and ask them to install the rear sway bar for you at no cost. Otherwise, I may want to consider to add this bar yourself.
Do you like to drive fast or fast cornering ? If you are then a rear sway definitely help to stablise the car.
