Snow tires on the front axle? 850

This sounds like a dumb question but with my 850, can I put a snow tire
on the front axle? I am so used to my old 240 and rear wheel drive cars that it seems strange or unsafe to put a knarly, biting tread on the axle which does the turning and pulling. If O.K., any tire maker recommendations? (i.e. Nokian)

Ive always found it to good practice to always have 4 of the same tires on your car!! Personally Ive never bothered getting serparte snow tires, and go with a good all season. I drive across Canada often during the winter, usually around the 80 - 90KM/H range. Ive never skidded yet (knock on wood) and Ive been driving for 14 years (in Canadian Winters)!!

    FWD, 2 tires....yes 850

With FWD, you'ld normally put 2 snows on the drive wheels so yes....front. As others have also advised, overall traction and handling in snow is best if you have 4 snow tires on ANY car, RWDs too.

It is more important to keep the rear of the car stable, than the front.

One the rear loses traction, there is very little you can do to restore its traction. The best you can do is use your front wheels to restore the rear wheel alignment along your path of travel, thereby restoring rear wheel traction. But it is better not to lose your rear wheel traction in the first place.

If you lose your front wheel traction, by pulsing your brakes, changing your steering, etc., you have a greater chance of restoring your front wheel traction, than you do your rear wheel traction.

The best solution, and the only solution for me, is to put snows on all four corners.

Put them on all four corners or don't put them on at all. Remember braking is just as important as forward tracktion. Go to tirerack.com
