Strange symptom to a common problem (blower motor) 850

Well, my blower motor has started squealing. It is my understanding that this is not all that uncommon. It only squeaks on cold days and, oddly, it only squeaks when turning left. I take it that the shaft slides a little and causes the noise. It usually goes away shortly after straightening the wheel. My question(s)...

Can I fix it without replacement? Re-lube? If this only is temporary, is it worth it?

Will it go away with warmer weather?

If no to the above, is my best best the Behr unit that FCP Groton sells for $129?

Hopefully it ceases to rear its ugly head once it warms up a little.

Jeremy

Mine did this to. I took it apart (not very fun to get to, but not so bad) and cleaned everything and then put a drop of motor oil at the bearings.

I also lightly sanded portions of the plastic fins where they look like they had been touching the housing.

The change in sounds on turn symptoms happened with mine as well.

Now 1 year later I hear a small "chirp" every now and then from the fan ... but the dash squeak drowns in out :(.

I agree with Impala. It'll stop once it warms up. But it'll continue to get worse. If you're a dumbass like me, you'll let it go till next winter, and then be in your garage one night when it's 20 degrees out replacing it. I might suggest you order one & replace it when you're able to. I also used the $129 unit from FCPGroton. It's a little louder overall than the other one, but it works like a champ. I would budget 2 hours for the repair (instructions on volvospeed.com are perfect). The 2 hardest things were removing the knee bolster and actually fitting the new fan back in, but even that wasn't too difficult(lots of wires & cables in the way). But it can be done. Good luck.
