Removing Power Window Switch V70-XC70

Thanks for everyones help in the past with both my current Volvos, and the 850 I used to have.

On my 1999 V70 the passenger's side power window switch is intermitantly sticking. I want to remove it and either clean with contact cleaner, or replace if that does not work. Problem is my manual tells me how to do everything to the door and panels, except how to just remove the window switch. They show removing the entire panel and accessing from inside. This must be like all other cars I've worked on, in having a way to pry out the switch without all that. I've removed panels several times (on a Passat, a GMC sierra, a Pinto, and a Celica) and would rather avoid it. How do just remove the switch. On others it is important to pry from a certain area, else risk breaking the clips.

you don't need to remove the door panel.

I removed the drivers side master switch by using 2 small thin flat screwdrivers, with the end covered with tape. I placed both on the same side about one each apart and put some light pressure at the same time and switch popped up.

The passenger side switch is the same size, so same technique applies.

From the sounds of it - you are probabaly working of the UK Haynes manual, right?
The safest method is indeed removing the door panel, it reads harder than it actually is.
The problem is that if you DON'T remove the door panel and try and lever the switch out you may:
    a) damage the switch
    b) damage/scuff the handle surround around the switch
    c) all of the above

Hope this helps & good luck

You are right, I am looking at the UK Haynes manual. In the past I have used some plastic tools I've acquired over the years. Limits or eliminates any damage.

Unless someone else knows how to remove the switch separately, I may have to remove the panel like you suggest.

For now, the switch is working again, and I can always use the driver side switch. Will give it a little more time.

I had to replace the driver's side switch assy on my '98 S-70. If they are the same, the whole switch assembly just pops out of the door panel straight up. Then reach underneath and unpug the connectors. I didn't know this of course, and removed the door panel, breaking the door handle escutcheon, but I was able to glue it back together. That's when I saw that the whole assembly just snaps into the door panel. So for the pasenger side you would be removing the whole black section, the part that's the same size as the whole driver's side assy, not just the switch. I broke one of the switches trying to remove it, again not knowing what I was doing, but I figured it was bad anyway so I didn't have anything to lose. Good luck.
        Bob
