Hallelujah! The brake squealing has stopped!! 850 1996

like a fool, I put non-volvo pads on. They squeaked so much, I would swear they were squeaking when the car was parked. Had a friend tell me to put (silver) anti-seize compound on the backs of the pads. BINGO! no more squealing. Has only been 5 days, so we'll see how it goes. Just fyi.

Are the aftermarket pads less dusty? That's my biggest gripe. Expensive alloy's coated with dust the day after washing.

Upon recommendation, I installed on my 2 bricks the "Wagner's Thermo Quiet" brake pads, PERFECT so far: NO DUST. NO squeals, but I did put
silicon grease on the back of the pads. BTW: the Wagner's are cheap,
      I paid $32 CDN/set. just FYI.

In my experience it doesn't really matter what brand of pads you put on - if you don't put the paste on the back of the pads, they squeak, if you put on the paste, they don't squeak. It's that simple. I don't think it foolish to put on aftermarket pads.

I had a girlfriend that was a warranty administrator for a volvo dealership and she use to tell me the stories of how 1. volvo brake pads wore out prematurely, like within 15,000 miles, and 2. How aftermarket pads would eventually just squeal no matter what the owner did.

I have since relegated myself to the notion that I'll need to replace my front brakepads every 15 to 25k.
