engine noise when idling 850 1997

I recently purchased my '97 850 turbo wagon with 107,000 miles. I have noticed that when my engine has idled for a few minutes when I'm in traffic I start to hear a somewhat loud ticking - a lot like the usual valve noise when starting cold, but constant until I pick up speed. After I've driven at higher speed, the noise goes away and the engine idles quietly.
Could this be a worn oil pump? other oil circulation problem? a bad lifter? Anyone have other ideas? I would appreciate any input.

What viscosity oil are you using? I wouldn't use less than a 10w-30, and preferrably synthetic in the 850. Did you get any service records with the car? It could have been overheated in the past, then all bets are off. Can you see into the camshaft area if you take the oil cap off? What's it look like? Should be clean and not dark with baked on gum and varnish. If its got the baked on stuff then I would bet the previous owner did keep up with regular oil changes or worse yet it was overheated. Just a guess on my part.

I had this problem and it was due to a leaking oil pump seal. I guess the oil pump was not able to build up enough oil pressure to adequately lubricate the lifters.

Another thought: I've been told that it is important to have oil filters that have the anti-backflow valves such as Mann. There may be a correlation and I would check the simple (and cheapest) things first.
