Have read in this forum that this evap valve is a) near driver side high beam, b) and just a little more towards the center, near (just behind/below) radiator. Have heard it described as a T-looking thing with 2 vacuum hose and 1 electrical connection (3-4 inches long).

I sure can't find it. (this is in regards to a P0455 (large evap system leak)). can anyone help me ID the purge valve and it's location.

ALSO: what is in the 5x5x9-inch black box directly above the washer fluid reservoir ? AND, how do those clips operate ? I wanna see inside. Gads I feel dumb under that hood. Is that where the cabin air filter is ?

The EVAP purge valve on your 98 V70 is located on the radiator top left. There are two vacuum lines leading to it.
Most of the time the P0455 code is generated by a defective/loose gas cap and/or a leaking purge valve.
I cleaned the one on my V70 and the problem went away.
There is a black, flat plastic trim on top of the radiator. You will find the valve under the plastic trim.
I need to look into my V70, but I think you are talking about the engine air filter assembly.
The cabin filter is between the engine compartment and the windshield right/lower area.

when you say left/right, is this while looking into the engine compartment while standing in front of vehicle ? in other words, the cabin filter is
in front of the windshield on the driver's side ?

the black box I'm talking about is just behind the headlights on the passenger
side .. above the washer fluid rez. (I thought the engine air intake & filter were on the driver's side, behind the battery).

On automotive lingo (Repair, sales, etc) the left/right sides are always stated as you sit behind the wheel.
Left side is Driver side, Right side is Passenger side.

The washer fluid is in the left/front side of the engine compartment. The reservoir you mention is the engine coolant reservoir and the black box houses the ECU.

uhhh, windshield washer fluid is on the passenger side of the engine up front. By your own definition, that would be the RIGHT side, not the left side. It is on the same side as the coolant tank.

The Pollen/Cabin filter is on the passengers side. You have to remove 6 or 8 screws and kind of pry up the black plastic cover that runs from the passenger side to the drivers side to access the filter.
