Abnormal Noisy S40-V40

I am currently have S40 which is getting a problem once I turn-ON the key before start the engine. Normally, I hear the noisy as emmmmmmmmmm for 2 or 3sec which is normal for S40 experience from the front left engine. Some owner or workshop explain this is for air-pump system.

Now the system has become abnormal noise which is hear as em..em..em..em..em...also for 2 or 3sec. But my car still can start & drive as usual. This is my question as below:

1. Will it to be spoil soon?
2. Why & what to be effected this happening?
3. This abnormal noise can be repair until return to the normal noise?
4. How much the cost if need to replacement?

I hope to get somebody to feedback on the further information, if there have this experience before.

Raco....if I understand your note....(I think....) the initial sound you here when you turn the ignition key on...but don't start the engine is not an air pump, but the fuel pump. This is normal BUT!!!! there is a current Factory recall of all '00 S40's to replace the fuel pumps. I have heard conflicting stories about moving the pumps because of water/moisture problems, but when Volvo replaced mine last week they said that the pump would not be moved, just replaced and that they are "Defective"....... I don't know what other year S40 recall effects! Hope this helps, Bill

      Bill

There is a recall for the FUEL pump on 2000 S40's now too?

I just got a letter from Volvo about the air pump in the front left of the engine which would need to be moved because this pump indeed does collect water.
This pump is for the brakes at startup.

RACO may indeed have an air pump failing since he stated that the noise is from the front left where this air pump is located.

RACO can I ask where you are located generally? If you are in the states you should get a letter about the air pump recall.

Let me know, Bill, if fuel pumps are now being replaced on the 00 S40's.

      Miker

          thanks for bill & miker,

if u recall on the S40 '00 there is very near to my manufacturing date. My car was made in Netherland (Stated on the plate) & manufactured in 1999 but registered on March of 2000. So I beleive this is for end phase model before to the new model on April of 2000.

If this is under the technical faulty from manufacturer which is mention from Bill & Miker, so can I claim to the Volvo Dealer?

Miker, I don't have received any letter in Malaysia. I think Volvo Dealer is not much stronger than what I am compare to BMW & Mercedes. Sometime the spareparts will be more expensive than Germany Cars.

            RACO

You have to call Volvo to see if the 1999 build date is under the recall as in the States. I can't believe they would leave Malaysia out of the recall if there is a safety problem. In the states if the problem can be safety related, such as with brakes failing to work properly, the government can make Volvo recall the cars.

I am not sure what the cost but it can't be cheap ! It never is.

            Good luck to you

            Miker

              miker,

i don't know the problem has made from the manufacturer or user faulty. if there mention the problem was came from the manufacturer before the owner involve the case, so volvo must take an action do not to hiding on the behind the stage.

we knew volvo is the most safety vehicle compare to others. i don't think it will just spoilt the image although volvo is big vehicle manufacturer for car & truck.

i hope volvo can take action to the worldwide volvo dealer, any claim on the manufacturer faulty, must send to the workshop for car inspection. if true then it must be replace the parts immediately without the cost (F.O.C), for any S40 model event the car was over warranty period. It must take an action before the owner or government has to against volvo.

              The Story Of Proton Car.
Proton was made in Malaysia which is the first time to launch Proton Perdana V6 export to the UK. They are claim to the Proton quality problem on the suspension arm-joint which is non protect rubber seal will affected the performance. At the same time Proton has take an action to replace the new part for all Perdana model inclusive for new & old car without cost (F.O.C). This is what i am seen our services to protect the high spec. model for domestic & oversea.

So, do u think that volvo will do such thing? Can it replace without the charges, although the car more than 5years?
