'98 V70 window controlls dead V70-XC70

the window controls to my parent's 1998 V70 have stopped working. None of the window controls are functional. The power locks still function.

The driver's side window switches feel (to me) to be sticky. If something was spilled on the driver's panel, would that cause all window switches to short out?

thanks for any help (and if additional info is needed, please ask)

I just replaced the window control on my '98 V70. I did as the first responder suggested and took it apart to clean it up. There was tons of crud and dirt in the mechanism, Volvo didn't design it very well as any dirt, water etc. that falls within the switch lands on the contacts. Cleaning seems to be only a temporary fix as it lasted only about a month before the problems started surfacing again.

I paid $64 for the switch on eBay and the shipping was free. Here's the link:

Good luck. It's an easy part to replace.

It's entirely possible the liquid is what caused the problem. I assume you checked the fuses. If not look in the box as that might be the problem. If not
you will need to have the contacts looked at because they may be shorted.

Good Luck...

you may have to buy a new switch cluster they are no more than 100 bucks and if you can clip your nails you can install one..it's that easy

'98 V70 window controlls dead S70

I've got a similar problem (98 S70) but a local "import" mechanic looked at in and guessed it was the driver's side window motor/actuator which he ordered for me ($330 - thanks). I paid him for the part and said I'll cut my losses now and now I'm ready to install it. The switch was working again for the past two weeks until it quit again today, and now I hear a click when I try to roll it down. Can anyone tell me if I should actually be replacing the switch cluster instead of the motor/actuator?
