VADIS setup

Hi,

2 questions about VADIS:

1)
I have a VADIS 2001 in british english which contains information on my 1997 S40 with manual tranny. I also have VADIS 2003 in US english but this one does not contains informations about my tranny and also lacks a lot of things about my engine (normally aspirated 2.0). This is because only automatic 2.0LPT is available in the US so VADIS US edition lacks a lot of info about european S40. However the 2003 US edition contains updated info about parts for any types of engine or tranny. So I'd like to update my 2001 european VADIS with the 2003 US Vadis but if I do this the 2003 US Edition erases all the info from the 2001 edition and I again loose the repair procedure for my transmission and engine.

Does any body knows how to mix VADIS 2001 European and VADIS 2003 US so that I can update the additional information contains in the 2003 edition WITHOUT erasing the 2001 information? There is a file called compinfo.ini on both DVD and it defined how VADIS component are installed. Do I need to change something in that file prior to installation of 2003 edition?

2)
When installing VADIS and entering user configuration screen, you can choose the default information type you want to see first when logged in into VADIS. If you look at the list of "available" information types, you'll see that it also contains Safety Recall campaign bulletins or Service Campaign bulletins. It thus means that these information SHOULB BE AVAILABLE IN VADIS but I can't see them. There is no service bulletin or safeyt recall bulletins.

As an alternative in going on alldata.com, does anybody knows how to "unlock" this information in VADIS?

NB: I forgot to mention that for both 2001 and 2003 editions, I used the International Misc setup in order to have all the info about all Volvo markets in the world so problems do not come from here.

Won't let you

Try to keep both versions separate, or you're going to corrupt a file and neither version would work, unless you reformat the hard drive.

All the options were available when the subscription was active. You have old versions and thus not every feature is available to you.

Be happy you have a working vadis dvd, as this is a great resource to have. I have a 2002 version and this covers all my volvos.

Hi John,

How does the program know that the subscription is over? Do we have to connect to intenet in order to "activate" a subscription? If it is "only" a line in a file that determines when the subscription is over, it shouldn't be too difficult to find it.

I can't install the 2 versions separately as there is no way to install certain folders separately (ex C:\Volvo cannot be installed in another location).

I'm sure we can find a "crack" to activate all these hidden informations as they must be available somewhere on the DVD.

How does the subsription works for actual VADIS versions?

Regards

create a partition

You need to create a partition in your hard drive, ie D drive. Install one version in the C drive and one in the D drive.

The vadis subscription is over $6000 per year, and requires being connected to the volvo server and a current valid password, to access TSB's, and other info that is not in the dvd, but can be downloaded from the server.

The info that is actually in the dvd is the only info we can access, as these dvd's are expired and should have been returned to volvo to be destroyed, and we are not supposed to have them. Still, the info in them is invaluable.

Cheers

create a partition

Hi John,

I installed VADIS 2001 on partition F and VADIS 2003 on partition E but VADIS 2003 takes up everything as it has been installed afterwards. I think the last installed VADIS version automatically updates the previous one even if it is installed on another partition. In fact, I still have all the files of VADIS 2001 but there are no more accessible from VADIS since the current version available now is VADIS 2003 only.

Any other suggestion?

Very interesting!!!!

It's very interesting that vadis won't allow 2 versions to run on a single computer, even though they are on different partitions.

The only solution is to use the newest version, ie. 2003, or install each version in diferent computers.
