ABS/TRACS fixed by Victor Rocha 850

Hi,

This is just a note to put a plug in for Victor Rocha and his wonderful service for fixing burnt out ABS controller's. My '96 850 wagon ABS light came on intermittently Autumn last year and then permanently from October. I had three codes, pump, controller and RR wheel sensor.

I stuffed around with the wheel sensor a bit (getting ones from wreckers etc) before discovering Victor via this and other bulletin boards. http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha

This was great!!! Victor was fast, efficient, a pleasure to deal with and my unit came back in a week, looking better than new. Victor supplied very thorough removal and installation instructions. He found 6 heat-induced cracks on the circuit board and replaced two burnt-out components. This is a much better idea than letting the dealer charge you 700 odd bucks to replace the $450 dollar unit ... and apart from getting hold of the proper E5 Torx socket, getting the unit out to him and then back in is easy and quick.

I would certainly give this a shot if you suspect your unit is the trouble, as it seems to be in more than 90% of the cases in the particular models effected. I suppose the damage to the controller itself was causing the others codes for the pump and RR wheel sensor, I just put my original wheel sensor back on and everything is fine.

Cheers,

Mikel

How much did he charge you? I own a Volvo shop, and upon realizing that I was attempting to find 5 ABS controllers used, I called Volvo and said, "I want a bulk discount!" I've been getting six at a time for $300.00 each, with no shipping. Would Victor be cheaper? How long is his warranty?

If I recall correctly, it was somewhere in the neighbourhood of $125 to fix your "dead unit". You pay shipping to send the unit round trip. Like he said, turn around is about 1 week or so! Not sure about the warranty; but at that price, if it went bad in a year I would gladly pay to fix it again(and still be ahead of the dealers' price).

Ditto that. I drove up and met Victor in LA. He was a really nice guy and took care of the ABS for me. Its been 2 weeks and no problems yet. I would highly recommend that you send your unit to him for repair.
