Flushing Transmission V70-XC70 1999

After learning how to flush the tranny on the 240's, I'm hoping that I can use the same procedure for the V-70, but it's got special clip connectors. Do they require a special tool. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

I have viewed the other postings and find variation in the process.

My 99 V70( built in 8/98) was serviced by pulling the top radiator transmission return hose on the right side. I have a lime green plastic clip that hold my hose on and could be removed by compressing the two wings on the clip with your fingers and pulling towards the engine. Mine did not have a metal clip like posted on the IPD instructions. However, I did follow their process by attaching a clear poly hose to the return line and I then added one quart and proceeded to run out one quart at a time. I had a graduated 5 gallon bucket which could be used to stop when each quart was removed. I used 12 quarts before it ran clean at my 70m change. Did not have any problem with leakage, however next time I will see if they have replacement clips and new oil rings.

A pair of circlip pliers will work just fine. The 850 will move fluid a lot faster than your 240. I have two one gallon coolant jugs and two 5 qt. oil buckets. I will fill both the buckets with 4 qts. each, dump about 1/2-2/3 of a gallon in first and then fire the engine up, pour in the balance and when the 1 gallon coolant jug is full shut it off and do it again. I will typically put 4 gallons through an AW30-40. Another thing that works great is to get a piece of clear vinyl hose to run your fluid through, mine is long enough that I can drape it in front of the head lights while I flush and I can really see what I am looking at that way, it is not neccesary but it is a nice touch. When you are all done put a zip tie around the little metal retainer for the cooler line as every now and then one of those suckers cracks and breaks off.

Thanks for your post. However, I'm not quite clear about how much to run out each time the engine is run. It also looks like you install about 2/3 of a gallon before engine is even started. Isn't this asking for troub.

The transmission fluid line connects to the cooler near the top of the radiator, on the driver side close to the battery. The clip that holds the hose fitting in the radiator fitting can be removed by prying open with a wide blade screwdriver and pushing off. Some suggest opening with needle nose pliers and forcing off. The hose slips out of fitting - use care not to damage o-ring.

For reassembly, put the clip on the hose first, then push into the radiator fitting. The clip has one end flared to facilitate this.

It's easier than it looks.

Snap ring pliers work well also. Just go easy on it as they can break.

Flushed that baby away with about 14 quarts of AT fluid. An easy job. I worry too much.
