A/C compressor is not turning on 850

Spring! It's 80 degrees in the twin cities today, and my AC doesn't work. So I went to Kmart and got a can of 134a and connected the guage to check the pressure. It was zero. But then I noticed the compressor was not spinning. The fuse is OK. What should I be looking for? I can not add 134a unless the compressor is spinning, it's 90+ in the car, and I turned the heat to 60 degrees and the AC switch is in the auto position.

A/C compressor is not turning on 850 1994

    Greetings,
Live in south florida A/C constant problem, any way i think you can jumper the cycling switch near the firewall piece of wire, that should engage the compressor so you can add refrigerant. think you have a leak in evap ??? expensive job, use sealer availabl auto zone $20 -$30.
    good luck

Jumped switch and that works 850 1994

I jumped the switch on the low pressure line... it works. Guess I need to buy a new switch. Thanks.

    More notes on A/C 850

Checked service records: new condenser 7/02, remanufactured compressor 7/3, replace thermostat 8/03. Checked fault codes today, there was one (417) I cleared it and ran the engine for 10 minutes at idle and the codes remain clear.

If the fan doesn't come on, neither will the AC. Sometimes, though rarely, any code for any of the intake fans or sensors will not allow the power stage to send signal to the cabin fan to run. If it doesn't run, obviously, the compressor will not come on. If the interior fan does run, check to see if you have power to the low side pressure cycling switch, if you do, jump the switch for no longer than about 5 seconds, see if the compressor comes on. If the compressor does not come on, check the ground and power wires to the compressor, since it was recently done, a wire could come loose. If the compressor does come on, you most likely have a dead pressostat.
