Looking to Buy '94 850 Turbo Wagon, Help! 850

This car has 101,000 miles and appears to be in very good conditon. What should I look for. Are transmission an issue on these cars. What kind of life is expected from the trans. How much for rebuilt trans installed? Is the turbo a concern, how much?

Thanks all comments appreciated

Have a pre-purchase done on it by a competent Volvo mechanic, if he is any good at all he'll be able to tell you more about that car than Carfax ever will.

Looking to Buy '94 850 Turbo Wagon, Help! 850

Greetings,
I purchased a '93 850 that a previous owner had replaced the transmission at about 125k. I think they normally last a bit longer than that, but I have heard the transmissions are an area to keep in mind on early 850's. Have the timing and serpentine belt been replaced recently? If they have not, at 101k that would be the immediate concern. Good luck

The trannys run hot and need regular flushing - 30K miles. The turbo either works or you need a new one. If it has a trailer hitch, as what was towed and where to (tranny). Good motor. Definately different driving characteristics, takes time to get used to. Check CV joints for dryness/cracks. Spend $20 for CARFAX, piece of mind. It will take $1,000 to get it to the way you like it.
