ABS light on 850

Hey Guys!

I just bought a 97-850 with 76k original miles on it. FANTASTIC CAR!!! The ABS light comes on occasionally and stays on. Last night went out to eat and did not light up. Came out and started the car and it lit up. Drove home and turned it off and re-started the car and it stayed off. The wife will drive it and it won't come on for a day or two. I'll drive it and it comes on and then when I re-start it goes off and stays off. Any ideas from anybody. I just replaced the pads in it but it was doing it before the pad replacement.

Thanks!!

Henry

indicates a failing ABS module, soon the light would be steady. Common failure in 850/70 series.

Need to replace module with new one for about $600 parts and labor,or have it refurbished for about $150.

I just recently had mine refurbished by Victor, and everything went very well. He's very reliable and helpful.
One note about removing and reinstalling the unit. Although I used the E5 torx socket that Victor recommends (I bought it from Lara tools on Amazon.com), a 4mm hex socket would really work just as well. So, if you don't have the E5, the 4mm socket is a lot easier to find.

Thanks for the tip

Gordon,

thanks for the tip about the 4mm hex. I think is my turn to have my unit refurbished.

Cheers

Thanks John. Is there any place that sells refurbished modules that you know of? Or do I have to take this one off and take it in somewhere or send someplace.

Thanks!
Henry

ABS modules

do a search on ABS module failure on this site and you'll find Victor Rocha, he's a fellow volvo owner that refurbishes these units with great success.
