Automatic door lock when ignition starts - hate it!

My 1996 850 has a "feature" where the doors automatically lock when you start the ignition. Is there any way I can disable this? It's annoying on many levels...

    My 96 854t5 duzn't do this either. Manual sez that an airbag discharge will automaticly unlock the doors, so I doubt Volvo did this. Could this be a programable function? Mebbe time to pester the dealer?

    This feature was never offered on the 850, but aftermarket companys offer it. Someone has added this feature, usually accompanied by an alarm system.

      Ah ha! There was an an additional alarm system installed two owners ago. I will try to dig up the manual for it! Thank you!!

    Hmmmm. Guess Volvo changed their minds. In my owner manual it states It is not recommended to operate the car with the doors locked because it might impede rescue workers/quick egress.

    1993 850 GLT 100,000 k.
