Is this the charcoal canister? How long do they last? Turbo model. 850 1995

I've been looking for the source a vacumn leak sound and traced it to the plastic canister mounted under the car, ahead of the left front wheel. There are three fittings on the top of the can. Two have hoses and elbows on them and the third has what looks like a protective cap sheilding but not sealing it. There is high vacumn on this third port.

Should there be a filter or something to strain dust here? Sorry no pic.

Thanks,
Erwin

I had a similar experience and thought it was the charcoal cannister. The car hissed. I got a new cannister but that was not it, I ended up replacing the EVAP valve which I ordered online from one of the parts venders. The valve opens and closes and gets stuck open and makes a sucking sound thru the cannister. I cleaned mine and tought that would fix it but it kept hissing so I got a new one.

My EVAP valve was on the right hand side(facing the engine)in the box formed underneath the the squared black plastic frame above the radiator fan. There is a little gray square box next(to the right)of it. Mine has an orange plug and green wires going to it. It is round and squatty looking. It was mounted in a little rubber like support thing. It simply unbolted unplugged and put the new one in(5 minute job).No more sucking sound. Hope this helps.

Search EVAP valve or cannister hissing on the searches on this site.

Thanks! That must be the problem as my post preceding this one pointed me in the same direction for the source of my 3-1-5 Evap code. I know the module you're talking about. I had to remove it last year when I replaced the radiator.

      Much appreciated.

      Erwin
