Panel Lights - Bulb Failure or Fuse ? S70

Hi,
The three switches to the right of my steering column for the Sunroof, Defroster and TRACS do not light up when the headlights are turned on - while the ones left of the steering wheel for the Dimmer and the rear fog lamp light up fine.

I checked the fuses and there seems to be only one fuse for all panel lights. Is there individual bulbs on each of those switches ? If someone else has seen this kind of behavior and would like to share a fix ...

Also, is there a source for electrical schematics for a 98 s70 ?

Thanks in advance.

regards

yes, they have led light bulbs that are replaceable.

Remove the switch and you'll see a grey round bulb holder, twist counterclokwise and remove the led. Replacements led bulbs can be found at radioshack at $1.49 for a pair.

OK, to set the record staight, these bulbs are NOT led's, they are incandescent.
Radio Shack number seems to be correct. Bulbs are indeed easy to replace, the real pain to replace are the radio and front panel bulbs. For a few cents more they should have used white leds and they would last forever. So addressing the issue, keep the dimmer control down to minimum or off except when needed.
cheers

Thanks for the info jda2000.
How would I remove the switches? Do I have to take out the driver side kick panel and get behind the dash somehow and push em out? Or is there a way to grab the switch from up front and yank it out?
Sorry for the naive question, but I am new to the Volvo.

TIA.

use a small screwdriver and pry the switch gently from the top and bottom and the switch pops out.

For future reference :
here are the instructions for replacing those annoying burnt out bulbs in the panel switches.

1. Snap switch out by prying on the top with a small screw driver - Be careful not to scratch the switch or the panel above - I used some masking tape on the tip of the screwdriver.
2. Gently undo the white bulb holder which is on the top of the switch - using a screwdriver - turn CCW.
3. The replacement bulbs can be purchased from RadioShack - The bulb # is 7219 Micro Lamp - 12volts, 60mA. They come in packs of two - $1.49 for a pair.
4. The bulb has long slender wires. It is an incandescent bulb - although looks very similar to an LED.
5. Replace bulb. Screw holder back onto switch. The switch snaps right in.

Hope that helps.

Well, consider yourself lucky...On my 1993 850 GLT the entire dashboard has to be removed in order to replace bulbs--it cannot be done individually. Total cost, approximately $260.00 American.

He is talking about the toggle switches, not the instrument panel. Switches just pop out including 1993 models. The sad news for '93 and '94 models is that the bulbs are not replaceable and the entire switch has to be replaced! I replaced ALL my toggle switches with a later model type in my '94 when first purchased.
