Long term decision - whats you opinion

Hi All

My 97-855 is going into the dealer to see why the AC has been getting weaker the last couple of years. I am assuming the evaporator will need to be replaced. Bless the dealer's heart they said not to assume such a costly option and to wait and see where the leak is located. Regardless, I have prepared myself for the worst. I suggested to the dealer that if it is the evaporator then lets replace the heater core when she's opened up. The service writer thought a new core was not necessary since I have had my cooling system flushed every 24K. I have had this car since new and plan to keep it at least another 4-6 years. She currently has 80K on the odometer. What would you do with respect to the heater core?

Thanks

Heater core should be fine. You might want to replace the drain hoses while they are in there. They get "crudded" with age. I like the idea of replacing the bulbs, all of the bulbs.

If it ain't broke. Leave it. Reminds me of the the "let's replace the water pump at the same time" when changing the timing belt.

Unlike the evaporator, the heater core is a relative "piece of cake" to get to and replace when it fails. Which it will, eventually, but that might noit be for another 2-4 or 6 years. Or it might happen in 2 weeks. Since access to the heater core is relatively easy, unless you're getting the characteristic puddle under the floor mat, I'd wait.

If anything, you might want to replace all the dash light bulbs while the it's apart. They're cheap enough.
