HELP! Droppped screw inside exhaust manifold!!

Oops, I was cleaning out the hole to the EGR using a screw and I dropped it inside the chamber! It fell down into the exhaust manifold and I can't reach it. How bad is this - can I just leave it there or will it rattle around or damage something?

Clumsy me!!

You have to get it out. Even if you have to pull the intake to do so. I agree with the previous post, purchase the magnetized tool, only I'd just keep it, because as you just found out, sh*t happens.

I would try to retrieve it.

Get that pick up tool, like a snake with magnetic tip to pickup screws. Heck, buy it at autozone or sears, save the packaging and receipt and return it if you think you won't need it again.

HELP! Droppped screw inside exhaust manifold!!

Well, I didn't get a post yesterday and I just went ahead and put it back together & started driving around, nothing bad happened. Maybe the screw didn't fall that way (I didn't actually see it, just don't know where else it could have gone). No rattling noises or anything.

And the good nws is that after hours of digging out the crap clogging the hole to the EGR - even without removing the EGR - my engine check light is off and the car is ready for smog, my gas milage just went up to 25 mpg around the city, maybe because I cleaned the throttle body too. hurray!

I am glad you DID IT!

        More power to you girl!

I am glad to see someone who is not afraid to learn something new and not afraid to get his hands dirty.

        Congrats on your fix.
