Is there a way to reset the service engine light on a 1997 GLT other than going to the dealer?

    The cheapest and most permanent solution to this problem, is to remove the bulb. That's what I did on my '97 850. You will need to remove the instrument cluster. Bay 13 (volvospeed.com) has nice instructions.

    Service light reset tools are available on EBay for about $75.00 which is what a dealer wants to turn the light off one time. Very simple to plug in and reset the service light. In EBay look in EBay motors/Parts and Accessories and search for "Volvo Service Interval Reset Tool". I got mine from a gentleman in England and it works great.

    Not unless you have the proper tool yourself, and they are expensive. You can have the dealer set it to never come on.
