Should both Halfshafts be replaced at once? V70-XC70 1998

I just replaced my drivers side halfshaft and bearing assembly because the old one sheared off at the nut. Anyway, I was wondering if I should replace both sides halfshafts and bearing assemblies. The Car has 85K on it now.

Just after I replaced the halfshaft, I noticed that when I accelerate from a slow speed up to highway speed, I get a wobble, that feels like the tranny is transferring power from one side of the car to the other around 10 times a second. Thinking it was the alignment, I just had it done, but the wobble is still there. Could it be because I only replaced one halfshaft instead of both at once?

I've never replaced just a half shaft, I always get the whole axle. My assumption would be that it is much like a two piece driveshaft, and therefore balance is infinitely important. The entire axle is so cheap! and the aftermarket ones come with a lifetime warranty from a reputable supplier.

That's what I mean. The half-shaft has two CV joints and goes from the transmission to the wheel. They call it a half-shaft, because it is only on one side of the car.

Well color me half-witted. I never heard the term half-shaft before. Did you torque everything to factory specs? Is the tire worn in some funky fashion as a result of the worn axle, and now that everything is back where it belongs, unusual tire wear is causing a wobble? When you installed the axle, did you also replace the axle seal, or could you have developed a small transmission leak from the axle seal resulting in low transmission fluid giving you a "slipping" feeling? When you purchased the axle, did you specify "turbo" since the inner joint is bigger for a turbo than it is a normally aspirated car? Other than that, without seeing the car...I have no idea. It seems I replace "half-shafts" all the time without any problem.

Chris
