S70 Brakes- are they all like this? S70

Hey, everyone. I'm in the process of replacing the ol' 740 with an S70. I've test driven two, both '98s with about 70k on them (one was a base model, the other a GLT.) Both had brake pedals that were, to put it charitably, mushy. The pedals on both went about half way through their travel before I got any braking at all...not at all like the 740's almost immediate feedback. My question is, do they all feel like this, or did both cars have worn brakes?

    My 98 S70T5 is a bit mushy. Pads and rotors and flush firm it
    up for about 15K.

    My wife's 1995 855 GLT has the best brake "feel" I have ever
    experienced. It is like two different cars (70 vs 850).

    Both cars stop just fine. The 855 is just more fun to stop.

      Good feedback, everyone...thanks.
      Has anyone switched to the stainless steel brake lines, and did they work as advertised? I sold the 740 yesterday and am picking up my "new" car ('98 S70 GLT, 71k miles) tomorrow. The S70 is so much nicer in every way...except the brake feel. It'd be nice to be able to get that back.

    Have an 850. Brakes are not like 'old' Volvo feel -- also feel mushy and not as 'sensitive' as older Volvos. BTW - I have new Volvo rotors and pads, etc.
    I've noticed same on all other 850s test driven.

      Dunno why, but these cars seem to really benefit from regular brake fluid flushes, which really firms up the pedal. I do my 96 854t5 yearly, I never had to do the old 87 764t4. Once you do get pressure, boy do these cars stop fast.

        OK, thanks. I'll just chalk it up to a different pedal feel, make sure the rotors are in spec, change the pads and flush the system.
        I've selected the S70 I'm gonna get; it's just a matter of finding a buyer for the 740 now before I sign the paperwork (a requirement from my wife.)
