Rare sight 850

Last night as I was preparing to leave for dinner an immaculate '94 850 wagon parked next to me...I of course had my '93 850 with me. When the owner got out I proceeded to speak with her for a bit to find out more about the car. She's the original owner and the car only has 60k original miles! What's more, it's a 5-speed, with a sunroof and the cold weather package! How often do you find a '94 850 wagon, in all-original conditon, 5-speed, with that low of a mileage? Not too often, I assume.

If you're wondering, no, she has no plans to sell that car.

Hey my wife's '95 850T just turned over 23,000 miles ! We're the original owners and we've had several other cars/trucks during the years but always kept the 850 in the garage. We'll probably give it to my daughter when she finishes school. But that would be a waste maybe?. The car still smells like new. Well, except for the occasional overpowering R134 fragrance from the original evaporator :-( that I refuse to take out :-). I guess I will eventually but I hate to take the dash out. I usually just dump in a can of R134 at the beginning of summer and it lasts several months. I had to replace the stock Michelin Pilot tires a few years ago because they just went square from sitting in the garage. It's a stock black/tan/auto Turbo with the sport suspension option and wood grain dash. Not a scratch on it. I put the E-code lens on it and relocated the horns and added a K&N filter but not much else. I swapped out the factory SC-811 radio for a black SC-816 CD/stereo too. I did the power seat back cable repair job already. But other than the A/C evaporator to be done, the car has been great. I lost some of the stock window trim when the car was new and I took it out for a highspeed run, but the dealer replaced the pieces and said to apply some speed-tape next time I did that :-) . My wife baby's the crap out of it when she drives. I did the IPD waste-gate tune up on it and it helped the low-end acceleration quite a bit too. I hope to keep the mileage low for a while anyway.

Mike

I am the owner of a 93 850 sedan without the touring package (no leather, no sunroof, no keyless entry) and automatic transmission. 85K miles. Took delivery in December of 1992. Stock configuration with a few volvo accessories added in. Overall a nice car, looking for 15 plus years of service out of it. Should make it.

As for unwanted posts on this board it is truely disappointing to see that occur.

In a realted story I bought my wife's 91 745 3 years ago with 39K on the clock. We are the third owner. The first two had the car maintained religiously at the dealer which we continue to do as well. I reviewed the service records after purchase to find out that the evaporator had been replaced and the refrigerent upgrade with freons succcesor. The second owner even had the timing belt replaced at 35K based on the dealers recomendation of time versus miles. It has been a terrific car. Second only to my 97 855 GLT which I bought new and has been the best car I have ever had and unfortunately may ever own. I am lucky to have a great dealer and good cars. I have hunted for about 18 months for a local LMB (low milage beauty) 97 855 but have had no success. It looks like my 855 will be my next used Volvo as I try to see if the 04 V70 fits the heritage.

Adios

I think Evilwally got lost in his closet and can't find his way out, that's why we haven't heard anything from him lately.
Anyway, back to the topic. I know the clean low mileage 850's are out there. I found a one owner '94 sedan Canadian model for my daughter last year and it only had 48K miles on the clock. Everything is metric, speedo in kph, tank in liters, etc. And it had every service receipt since new. I found it on the Auto Trader. I got her '86 240DL sedan that we got her for high school as her first car. It now has 290K and still has the original engine and auto trans. I too was lucky on that one. It had 180K miles on it when we bought it in '96 and it too was a one owner with it's entire service history. I guess I'll get her 850 when she's ready to move up to an S60 in 5 or 6 years, then I'll probably put my 240 up for sale.......Maybe

My first 850 was a base model 5 spd. It was a great car.

Evilwally says I found a lot of nice 850's in junkyards or were they the factory. It a shame that more didnt fall off the boat when they were getting shipped. Was this a rare sight or a eye sight. P.S. 850's suck you fat bastard...

Um, excuse me? The 850 was one of the best cars ever to grace any road...

Well it takes all sorts....
In the UK the police rated the Volvo 850 T5 highly enough to use to chase w*nkers like you and bring them to justice. Maybe that is why you have such a bias against them? Have you been to England and had your boring mundane rice burner out accelerated and top ended by a police car in he UK? Hope they gave you what you deserved.... a bus pass.....

Evilwally, what kind of car do you drive that is so superior to a 850? Ricer? Ford? Or maybe you have to rely on public transportation now that your license is revoked.

Evilwally says I was riding your mom. I think she is classified as a bulldozer or a Mack truck. Ill I know is she is a little worn out and the tires are flat. And her interior is hairy like a warhog.

Hey Wally -- aren't there plenty of other sites you could join that appreciate your lack of knowledge and distasteful comments other than this one.

If you don't have anything to add that is helpful why comment?

Come on now guys, Wally probably aspires to be a janitor...it's not our fault that he gets his jollies out of being angry on messageboards...guys like him enjoy expressing their anger near anonomously on a message board, because if he expressed his anger anywhere else he'd probably get his ass kicked, he probably also enjoys finding weak women to date and make them feel inferior to his already inferior self. Let's give him a hand for making a feeble attempt to express his anger and correct his shortcomings on our message board.

Isn't this forum moderated? If so, I hope this guy is removed. I've seen several of his posts over the last few weeks and the guy obviously has nothing worthwhile to contribute. I have to admit though, I've laughed at a few of his idiotic comments.

think I found it 200

I found the ground lead at the solenoid to be loose at the spade connector. I replaced the connector and took her out for a spin last night and she didn't drop out, even when I took her up to 120 k/hr. I won't say she's cured but it is looking good at the moment.
