A/C whistle 850

I have a 1994 850 Turbo Wagon. When my A/C is cycling, there is high pitch whistle which sounds to be coming from behind the control unit. It almost sounds like a bad diode getting ready to give up its ghost. Any tips on possible causes or fixes are appreciated. Thanks.

That happens to me too! I have never heard anyone else mention it! When I bought mine at 143k, it did it, and it still did it until recently. My shreik seemed to be directly related to the pressure differential across the AC throttling valve. The only think I could think was that there was something in the system that made the expanding liquid/gas resonate. To solve it, I did two things: made sure i had enough freon in the AC system. (Mine was very low), and I also put in the R134a that contained cleaner, old car conditioner oil, along with a leakstop. Maybe its a crock and it will eventually lead to problems with my ac system, but all I know is that now it is COLD, NOT shreiking, and NOT leaking. Does anyone else know anything about this shreiking/wisting! (It was definitely not coming from the compressor or the clutch)

Thanks for the update. I charged the system, it was a little low resulting in frequent cycling. The whistling stopped after the system was charged, problem solved. Not to mention, I now have a happier wife since she drives the car.
