ABS pump 850

Another question.
The computer analysis says, the ABS light in my Volvo 850 is due to failure in ABS pump. I assumed that it might be due to metalic dusts stuck on ABS sensor located on the front wheel areas. Could anybody provide me with rough estimate to fix or replace ABS pump? Thanks.

YS

There's a big difference between the ABS "pump" and the ABS "ECU". The pump, also know as a modulator pump or hydraulic pump unit, is a completely different beast than the ECU. Which do you mean?

Thanks for the recommendation Oliver.
YXC168, what is the year of your 850?
If you have a 1996 and newer 850, this information will help you with your problem.

All the ABS control units (Installed on 96 and newer 850 and 70 series) will eventually fail after they reach 65,000 miles or 5 years. The average is 85,000 miles and/or 6 years for failures.
The erratic ABS light and/or no trouble codes is an indication of a defective ABS unit.
A dealer will charge about $120.00 to diagnose the problem and tell you that you need a new ABS control unit.
Having said that. Here is an alternative to correcting the problem for good.

You can pull the unit out yourself and send it to Vic Rocha who will completly rebuild it for considerable less than the dealer. (usually under $150 but check his prices)

The E5 socket to remove the unit is available at NAPA for around $12. Not hard to do.

Did it solve your light issue? My pump was diagnosed electronically a while back but I haven't replaced it yet because some on this board say its more likely a card.
