strut torque and mount questions 850 1995

I'm about to work on a Volvo for the first time doing front and rear shocks. and I'm getting a clunking noise from the rear. I'm going to do the shocks anyway and hope that solves the noise issue. Is there any other common problem that this might be ? It's a '95 850 wagon with 140k on it. Should I just go ahead and get the strut mounts as well for the front ? Don't know if this is a high wear item on the Volvos. Any shock mounts for the back ? I know that caused the same type of noise on my BMW. Thanks !

At this point in your car's life you need to do front and rear. For the rear there are some stops that need to be replaced too. Go to VolvoSpeed.Com and their repair/maintenance section for a complete write up with photos on replacing front & rear. Great source for info.

Yes, do all shock mounts.
Also, check your rear bump stops(aux springs),these sometimes become unclipped and will make noise.
See your Haynes manual.
