Yep, I'm firm believer in the function before form addage. I've had cars in the past the looked like rolling basket cases but could still turn low 12's or high 11's in the quarter. However, Volvo got it right with the turbo models. They got form and function, decent acceleration and handling, comfort and convenience, and striking good looks.
Along these same lines, I took a Hemi powered Dodge Magnum out for a spin this past Saturday. All I have to say is, wow. It's got love it or hate it looks (personally I love it) and power that can't be denied (340hp/390ft-lbs). Absolutely the best brakes I have ever felt in an American car this side of a Z06 Corvette, and the handling is pretty tight to. Overall, the car feels much lighter on it's feet than it's size and weight suggest, they have really worked some of the Diamler-Benz influences into it (the brakes are right off the E-class I think). Its not much in the way of practicality, the rear load area is very wide but the roof line is very low, so you could fit long flat things in no prob, but not tall boxes and such. Whatever, it's a muscle car for guys who want to satisfy their wives and tell them they got a practical, family oriented car. That'll be me in about 6 months to a year....
