flushing S70 cooling system without service center S70

Wanted to have the cooling system flushed and filled on my 98 S70 after 44,000 miles.According to service dept. this is not on any routine age/mileage schedule, it is done as needed. I brought the car to Sears to have this done for half the cost but was told they would not do this due to the inside of the hood decal stating only volvo coolant is to be used in the system. It was explained that there are 2 different coolants(green or orange)used in most vehicles but volvo's seems to be nearly clear and the type not able to be determined so to prevent any gelling issues from combining different coolants Sears was reluctant to perform the service. Has anyone done this? Is it absolutely necessary to "go volvo" with this? Would power flushing remove enough original coolant to not have the gel occurance? Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has encounter this situation. Thanks.

Do it yourself with any quality GREEN coolant. Do NOT USE DEX-COOL.

    Do it yourself.... S70

you don't have to use volvo coolant. Any dyethylene glycol coolant would work for a third of the price.

Save money and do it yourself. Prestone coolant is fine since you're flushing the system. It's rec to flush coolant every 2 years or 20K miles. Use ready to fill or concentrate with distilled water in a 50/50 mixture.

I just flushed mine last weekend using Texaco Havoline (orange) 5 year / 100K mile coolant (which is phosphate-free, best for aluminum engines).

Volvo does not require to flush the system then why do it?

Especially with the low miles you have?

          >Volvo does not require to flush the system then why do it?
Because the reason that there is no service interval for the coolant and the trans oil is so that Volvos get good "Cost of ownership" numbers?

If you change the coolant you reduce the risk of corrosion, leakage and waterpump brekage.

Hard to say what is a good interval however. But "never" is to long I think. But when you fix the leak or broken waterpump it kinda solves itself since you have to drain the system to do it :-)
