Help!?!? Just got a 1995 850 turbo wagon, new to me w/117,000, runs great...however-
Twice in the past few days the shift light (upwards arrow) was been blinking- owners manual says go right to dealer, but it is shifting/driving wonderfully, and that will be costly.
Upon the first occaision I started it and the check engine light went on as well, so I shut it it off, restarted, it remained blinking, so I drove it home, parked it overnite. The shift light went away next day- fine, but CE light still on. Two days later the blinking shift light came back for spell, shut it off and it went away, still CE light on.
I do have the Spt/Wint/Econ option, or is that standard?

Now I know it could be an array of things guys, but anyone have any thoughts and or suggestions as to what or how this came about?

And I know it could just be a coincidence that the check engine light went on simulataneously, uuh maybe...how does one reset that, if it can be done
without the dealer or trusted mechanic.

Maybe I caught a break ,but after I cleaned the contacts ,the arrow light stayed on for the rest of the day .
But the next day it was gone and hasn't been back .

Hi, you are in luck -- the 95s still have the code reader in the engine bay. Look for two small boxes, 2X3in, on the pass. side, just infront of the computer box(large). Go to Bay13.com to learn how to read the codes and reset them all to 111 (clear everything). The CE light will go out. Now if there is anything amiss, a NEW code will tell you what is wrong.

As others have said, try "cleaning" the contacts of the PNP switch as instructed. To find the cause of your CE light being on and resetting it, you need the code reader which, I believe, on the 95 is still under the hood, drivers side between the strut tower and firewall. Looks like a small black box with a cover and a small "pigtail" that you plug into various sockets inside the box. Instructions in the archives or the 700/900FAQ. With 96 and on models, the underhood box is gone as they went to the standard OBD2 system. If you have this system, you need to buy a separate code reader to pull and erase codes. It plugs into a special socket above the gear selector.

I believe this is generally due to a faulty pnp switch (which is the switch on the bottom of the shift linkage that tells the car whether or not it's in park or neutral). I believe bay13 has instructions for replacing the switch.

before you buy the switch ,it could be dirty contacts .

put the key in acc.position.
shift from low to park with the engine off fast about 20 times .
did this 2 months ago on mine still working fine .
