Our favorite subjective subject, but I think I have more of a specific question. I am thinking about new tires for the S70 in stock size of 205/55-16. The car has the Bilsteins, strut tower brace, and rear cargo coils (no lowering for me!).

I was looking at the Bridgestone Pole Position S03. All the reviews indicate that this is a fanatastic tire. However, I have two questions:

1) What's your experience with treadwear on the S70/850/or any Volvo? I would like to get 25K out of the tire under normal driving conditions (i.e. no track days).

2) How is this tire on cold days? No snow here, but it can get down into the upper 30s. Will this tire become a beast as the rubber hardens at those temps?

I'm also looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, and Brigestone RE950.

I just replaced the Pirelli Sport Veloce's I had with Bridgestone RE950s and I couldn't be happier. Great wet and superb dry traction, much reduced sidewall flex. Nice and quiet. With a treadwear rating of 40, they should last at least better than the Pirellis they replaced. I am very very happy with them.

i had horrible tread wear with the re950s. i had them in the front and the wore down quick. less than 15k? i am looking into the s03s too.

A good tire to get if you can, Goodyear triple tread.

I have been very plezed with Michelin Pilot A/S, even in moderate Chicago snow. Just an awesome tire. According to Tire Rack, the best tire of their type available.

Thanks. The TripleTreds are an All-Season tire and they are way way down on the performance food chain even by All-Season tire standards. Tirerack has them listed as a "Passenger All-Season" Tire.

I'm really looking for a better performing tire. I had the chance to drive a friend's Lexus IS300 yesterday that was running the Dunlop SP9000 Max perf summer tires. It was an absolutely increadible ride. It did not have the power of my S70, but it really carved the curves. It gave me an understanding about what the max perf tires mean...it not just about grib, but also precision.

Go with the dunlops!

I had them on my Audi A6 and they were really really nice summer tires!
