Folks - today, for some reason my sunroof stopped working, and of course it is in the open position. I checked the fuse, and it is fine. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but this happened after i set the alarm off.

Any hints to what the problem might be, or how I can get the roof closed?

Thanks in advance.

Two things to try. First, to reset the Upper Control Module, lock and unlock the driver's door with the key about 5 times. Give it a few minutes and see if that helped.
Second, reboot all software. After the car has been standing idle for 30 minutes to allow control modules to store status, disconnect the battery ground in the trunk. Reconnect after 10 minutes and wait a bit while the software reboots. Let us know when this works.

for starters you dont have to do the locks five times.all you have to do is lock it with the key...wait...30 seconds...then unlock it.your done.dont wear out your lock cylinder for thats whats really expensive.second the whole letting it run for 30 MINUTES is rediculus. 60 seconds after start up all the computers are at status if not sleeping.they operate at 250 kbps under the hood and 125 kbps in the cap of the car.dont waist your oil or plugs by idleing for 30 min.just a volvo master tech's two cents...

Jimjawz,

Sorry to have worded my reply to mikedivincent in a way which upset you.
I should have said, let the car sit without starting it instead of sit idle, which you read as idling.

Secondly, I do not have the advantage of master tech training as you do, so I did not know the precise times to wait. I'm just a simple shade tree mechanic trying to help another owner so I gave him the parameters which worked for me.

Don't you think your comment about wearing out the lock cylinder was a bit overstated?

Larry,

I am amazed at the value of this website. The 5 lock/unlocks worked like a champ. This would have been a good $250 charge at the dealership. A forum like this where experienced people can help solve problems is absolutely proceless, as are those that share their experience.
