On the 2001 cars that have the ETM (electronic throttle management)unit fail, does it give you any sign of a problem, does it limp home, does it just leave you stranded?

    I have an S60 2001 as well. Had the ETM replaced under 'goodwill' warranty recently. Did not have to limp home. Did not leave me stranded. Indication that there was a problem was not reflected in any error codes. Rather, the engine revs inconsistently whenever the car was idle/at a stop.

    My 2001 V70 "Check Engine" message was displayed. The dealer pulled up the codes and urged us not to take the car until parts were in to perform the repair.

    It will first activate several codes prior to failure and you also can limp it home...I ment to the dealer. I am yet to see a tow in due to an ETM.
