repair advice on 98 S70 S70 1998

Hello all,

I have several questions about repairing my 98 S70.

1)My ABS/Tracs light is on. This is not always on but usually most of the time. The dealer said that a sensor is probably out? Could this mean anything else and what is the cost/way to repair it? I sometimes notice the light comes on when I hit a bump or the there is a creaking/squeaking sound and then the ABS/Tracs light comes on.

2)When I lock the doors and then unlock them, the driver's side door locks don't unlock. The dealer quoted me about $100-200 per door to fix which is ridiculous. Any advice on ways to fix/cost?

3)About 1.5 years ago, the check engine light came on and the dealer said it needed a new air pump. I had the light turned on and it has intermittenly come on and gone off. The last month+ it has been off. The main concern is that it would not pass emissions check here in Ohio. Any thoughts on why it went off an if the the air pump needs replaced.

4)The bulb warning light has been on most of the time for the past year. I visually inspected the bulbs and changed them. However, after a little while, I noticed that the light came back on immediately. After looking at it, I am thinking either the bulb was not fitting properly or there is a short?

5) The turn signal does not blink automatically, I have to manually push the turn signal up and down...it sounds like a short an cheap fix...any ideas?

6)What kind of leather cleaner preserver do you use to clean the seats?

7) Has anyone noticed that the CD player will not play CD's that were created on a CD burner?

8)My S70 is about 122K miles on it now and I had the brakes done at about 60k and the timing belt changed at 70-80K mi...when should I expect to do this again?

Sorry to post so much but I thought I would just get it out there. Please keep in mind I am looking for the lowest cost solution to these problems.

Thanks,

Jonathan

The following is a responce to your msg from someone earlier.
I presumed that most cars have those round cylynders that do the electro/mechanical flashing, like the 4 way flasher cylinder.

What kind of leather cleaner preserver do you use to clean the seats?

In my 98 V70, Lexol cleaner and preservative. I even use it on my leather furniture and in my wife's car too. Get it from IPDUSA.com

#7. I've had various luck. Seems to work best with a gold/silver
colored CD recorded at 1x speed. Maxell CD-RPro recordable CDs work
in mine (they are a silver/blue color). You can use the search
feature to search on this topic to find other posts on this, too.

Most likely your ABS Control Unit has failed. All of them will eventually fail after they reach 80,000 miles or 5 years.
Reading the ABS codes costs about $125.00 at the dealer and about 95% of the time, the diagnosis is a defective ABS Control Unit.

Here's information I have on this subject.
    Vitor's ABS Web page
Click on the ABS / TRACS Link

The passenger door has a broken REPL (red evil plastic lever) I documented the repair of the door latch but nobody has attempted the repair, way too dificult.
I have rebuilt and upgraded door locks for your car if you decide to change it.

SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE STUCK IN THE SNOW AND ROCK BACK AND FORTH THE TRACS LIGHT IS ON.
SO TURN THE KEY TO IGNITION (NO NEED TO START THE CAR) FOR FIVE (5) TIMES TO RESET THE LIGHT.

DOES THIS MEAN BOTH THE FRONAT AND REAR "DRIVER" SIDE LOCKS HAVE PROBLEM?

BULB ON WHEN THERE IS A BURNED LIGHT BULB SOMEWHERE.
    IF NOT THEN...
SOMETIMES IF DIFFERENT BULBS (SUCH AS GE ON THE RIGHT AND OSRAM-SYLVANIA ON THE LEFT)ARE FIT ON THE RIGHT VS LEFT, THE BULB FAILURE SENSOR SENSES THE DIFFERENCE IN RESISTANCE AND TELLS YOU THERE IS A BULB FAILURE, BUT IN REALITY THERE IS NO BULB FAILURE.
ALWAYS USE THE SAME LIGHT BULBS RIGHT VS LEFT SIDES TOAVOID THIS ANNOYING FAILURE WARNING LIGHT.

YES, JUST REPEAT THE CYCLE AGAIN.
Make sure you replace the TB tensioner, this item is known to fail and even if you have a new TB, if the TB tensioner fails the engine is severly damaged because when the TB slips the pistons hit the valves...

    HOPE this helps.

      Cd player. S70 1998

One reason it may not play the burned cd's is they are not in CDA format. Not all Cd players read MP3's (most commonly downloaded) Format. Try converting them to the CDA format using Roxio, or some other converter software.
