Aluminum 'crush washer' for oil drain plug, V70 T5 2001

Folks, I have a 2001 V70 T5 and I want to do my first oil change soon (35K miles on car, picked it up used...). I have heard reports that the stock copper washer for the oil drain plug needs to be changed with every oil change and is a bit hard and helps to strip the pan threads eventually. Is this true? I have also heard that there is an Aluminum crush washer that is much better to use. Does anyone have a source (internet store/shop) for these and what would be the part number, cost? Regards, Chris in CA

    I believe that Volvo has changed across the board to the aluminum washer and the copper washer is nla.
    I get my Volvo oil filters for my 245 from swedishengineering,com and they each come with an aluminum washer now, instead of the old copper one.

    Do not use the copper seal washer. You are to use only the aluminum drain plug washer with these engines. The washer is readily available from IPD and other companies that support this web site. IPD wants 75 cents for theirs, but if you search the web they can be had for much less. Don't forget you need a special oil filter wrench to take off the plastic filter canister.

    On my 98 and 95 the washer is aluminum. Cost is about
    90 cents at a dealer. www.volvoparts.com lists it at
    70 cents. If you have a copper one I suspect it is not
    stock.

    Assistance requested: Whereabouts of Volvo Werks

    It's there, all right See http://www.stanford.edu/~mcduck/Volvo_Werks/
    for (rather large) photos.
    There was no one visible when I went to the front door, but as I left a woman came out and burrowed into the GT in front; a man made a brief appearance from the side yard, but dissapeared.
