Has anyone out there received their recall letter from Volvo for the poosible gas tank leak for 1993-1997 850's. I had to have my tank replaced last year because of a crack in the tank where the heat shield is attached. Volvo told me to wait for the recall letter and get an inspection before they would deal with reimbursing me for my out of pocket expense.

I bought my car used so Volvo has no way of contacting me. How do I check to see if I am affected and how do I get them to send em a letter? I am in Calfornia, and it gets very hot here too!

I haven't gotten a letter but I called Volvo NA and they told me the recall was only for 1994 through 1997 and that the 1993's were not affected. Since I have a 1993, that was of great interest to me. Are you saying I better follow up again?

I called the dealer in Alburturkey, NM and they said my VIN shows nothing. Well, I just filled up tonight and the garage stinks like gas, so I parked it outside. Obviously a problem. I will try another dealer. Dealers suck!

I seem to remember the problem has only occured in southern states, the intention being to only recall vehicles originally sold or currently registered in certain southern states.

Sorry the recall is only for Southern States and for models 1994-1997. The plastic plug in the gas tank where the heat shield is attach can crack on hot climates over time, causing the tank to leak at about 3/4 full. Very dangerous after filling up. I had to replace the tank at a Volvo indy last November and now find their is a recall eight months later. At the time, both dealers in town and Volvo customer service has "never heard of this problem before". I want to get my money back, but was told the first step is to get the recall letter and have it checked by a dealer. This confuses me because the tank is already replace????

I have a 93 850 and get the gas odor when the tank is > 3/4 full. Assuming I won't be eligible for the recall what can I expect to pay for a new tank?

Good point. There is no recall up here in Canada for "Canadian" 850's.
