Removal of ABS control unit V70-XC70 1998

Hi, my wife has a '98 V70 GLT with about 90,000 miles. Recently she has been getting the Tracs and ABS lights which I believe indicates a bad control unit. I have attempted to remove the unit so that I could send it to Victor Rocha for upgrading and repair.
I have a U-5 socket and have had difficulty removing the unit since the space to work with is so limited and the socket doesn't fit tightly on all of the bolt heads. I have removed two bolts and have not been able to loosen either of the remaining two bolts. Also, the bolts under the control unit are especially difficult to fit the socket over since the space is so tight.
Has anyone done this removal and if so, do you have any special suggestions that would help me with this? Thanks very much. Fred.

When I removed mine I had the air cleaner box out, like Victor says, BUT after loosening the bolts a couple of turns with the ratchet, it was an easy removal withe the tool in place and just loosening by hand.

TIP: place a rag or piece of plastic under the area of the ABS unit in case you drop the socket or the bolt. I lost the E5 socket in that area. Still lodged somewhere in there .

The torx socket is an E5, it could be the same of what you are calling U5, just make sure it looks like the one on the picture in my website.
Vitor's Volvo ABS website
Click on the ABS / TRACS Repair link.

When you remove the Air cleaner, there is enough space to work under the ABS unit from the side where the air cleaner was. You need to hold the tool with the left hand and use your right hand from the top (next to the brake fluid resevoir) to move the ratchet, or viceversa.
I just took some pictures yesterday, that actually show where the hands and the tool need to be to acomplish the job.
e-mail me so I can send you the pics.

Hi Victor,

I would also like you to e-mail me the pics.

Although the instructions on your web-site are clear, I'm somewhat confused about how to insert the tool.

Thanks,

Bryan
