Nokian tires anyone? S70

Any suggestions/comparisons on Nokian tires would be greatly appreciated. I am due for new tires and am debating purchasing Nokian all seasons.

Has anyone used them? How do the ride? Wear?

Thanks!

I have a set of 4 (NRW's) for the last three winters that I bought used and I could not be happier. They work well in snow and still have a lot of tread left.

I plan to buy a set of 4 (WR's) for my wife's Avalon next month for year around use.

We have a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitas (sp) on one of our 850s. Last winter, my daughter thanked me for having good snow tires on her car. She had no worries for two winters in Ithaca NY, even though she had to negotiate several steep hills each day.

an anecdote - when we purchased the car, the sales person offered the snow tires and a set of steel wheels to sweeten the deal. They were in the trunk of another car on the lot - two of the other salesmen followed us out to look at these legendary winter tires.

I used to have a set of studded Nokian Hakkapeliitas (sp) under a Saab 900 classic in Montreal. Absolutely nothing would stop it.

I now live in The Netherlands where it hardly ever snows. A few years ago I put a set of Nokian NRWs under my 940 as winter tires. I liked them so much that in the spring I just left them on. When I sold the 940 I put them under the 745 where they still are to this day. I understand that they have been superceded by a new tire which I presume is even better.

If you live in an area with snow and ice proper winter tires could save your and someone else's life. A set of steel rims shouldn't cost you more than say $50 or so and will save the expense and bother of changing the tires twice a year. Tires will wear out anyway whether you have one or two sets, so there is hardly any additional cost there.

As winter tires nothing beats Nokian Hakkapeliitas, preferably studded. If snow and ice is a rarity in your area then Nokian NRWs are great 4 season tires. Just don't think that NRWs are going to give you the true winter performance of Hakkapeliitas.

About 1 year ago Consumer Reports rated their snow tires #1. If you live in Milwaukee, where I think it snows, go to ebay and buy some wheels for snow tires. Then you can have 2 sets of tires for your car. There always seems to be someone selling wheels for S70s or 850s. Good luck.
