Help me find an Angle Gear! V70-XC70 1998

My 98 V70XC has been diagnosed with a broken angle gear (aka, bevel gear). The problem is that the dealer is reporting that there are no available parts in North America!!

The part number is: 8602678 (for "early production 1998 Cross Country")

Any idea how I can get one of these?

If all else fails, would disconnecting the rear drive shaft get me out of the woods?

You can just remove the front to rear driveshaft (keep ALL hardware) and your car will then be just like the FWD V70 and w/o problems. We've done it many times when our customers don't care to spend $2K plus to replace that part.

I guess my ignorance will show, but won't the broken angle gear still cause a problem if I simply remove the front-to-rear driveshaft? Won't it still be attached to the turning rear wheels somehow?

Check the V70 index, there's a question just like yours about disconnecting the rear drive shaft. Good luck.
