'98 S70 Oil Pan Replacement Help S70

Hello,

My girlfriend ran over a 'huge' rock in the road and now has a 'huge' puddle of oil under her car. I haven't seen it yet, but my first guess is that it cracked the oil pan. I've replaced them before on other cars, but another post here says the subframe must be lowered to do this. Is this correct? How big of deal is this? She is over an hour away from the nearest dealer.

Its a '98 S70 non-turbo.

Thanks for any help!

GM

this is NOT a diy job. you need to support the engine, drop the subframe and use the orange sealer volvo sells. picky stuff. best to ship it off. when the job is done, make sure to replace all the orings for the oil pump and pickup. good luck, chuck.

Not the answer I was hoping for!

Thanks a bunch for the heads up, and for the O-ring info as well.

i may have spoken too soon on the subframe. i'm going from memory and thought there's a corner of the pan covered by the subframe. i'm now thinking the pan is a clear shot all the way around. look at it real close. you still have to deal with the old sealer and applying the new, again; picky stuff to work with. sorry i might have mislead you. good luck, chuck.

I think you were right the first time, except it may be even worse. I looks more like an integrated part of the engine v. just a 'pan', and there is definitely stuff blocking access in several areas.

Kind of irks me since this has been a pretty easy fix on other vehicles I've worked on. I'm seriously considering a JB Weld job at this point.
