TURNING OFF AC BEFORE ENGINE SHUTDOWN? S70

Could someone explain why I must shutdown the Air Conditioning before I turn off the engine?
I think someone mentioned that this has an affect on the evaporator.
Could someone elaborate on this issue?
Thanks

TURNING OFF AC BEFORE ENGINE SHUTDOWN? S70

This spring, we started to get a musty smell whenever we left our house.

I found out that my wife was turning the climate control to off a bit before she got home.

We changed to switching the "AC off" switch to off about 2 miles from home. This causes the car to warm a bit and the climate control turns the fan up to correct the temperature. The combination of shutting off the AC and turning the fan speed up (automatically) caused all odors to go away.

You won't melt if you do this, but your AC will thank you.

The issue is ice buildup and potential mildew etc.

Evap can handle it but mildew over the years is unhealthy.

When going home (when the car will rest a long time, in contrast to stopping at a coffee shop for 5 min), I turn off the AC 1 minute before home, set blower on hi to blow off any moisture. While doing this I lower the window to get fresh air from outside.

    Just my 2 c.
