How to replace the driver's side switch plate/door handle? S80 1999

The driver's side switch plate/door handle cracked at
the screw mount point well in the door pull recess.
I'm trying to figure out how to remove the old plate
to replace it. It doesn't budge after I remove the
screw and pull up and towards me, even though there's
nothing else holding the switch plate in but several
leaf springs. What am I doing wrong?
Do I have to remove the door panel, and if so, how do
I do that?

Thanks...

How to replace the driver's side switch plate/door handle? S80 1999

Thanks for the response. Here is how I completed the repair:

After removing the door panel as described in volvospeed.com,
you must remove the switch assembly binding nut and work the
switch/switch plate assembly out of its hole in the armrest.

WARNING! Almost every component in the door is assembled with
heat-formed plastic rivets instead of screws and nuts. Do not
put pressure on these fasteners or they will break. Obviously,
nothing in this door was designed to be serviced or replaced.

The binding nut is a hex-head speed nut thingy that self-threads
onto a plastic post just below the switch assembly.

The switch is attached to the switch plate by 6 snaps. You cannot
get to these snaps with the switch assembly in place. Press the
assembly up and towards the inside. There are small hooks in the
door handle area that cause the switch plate to pivot about its
inboard side that will release as it pivots.

Pry the switch plate snaps off with a thin flat blade screwdriver, and
keep the snaps disengaged with a thin flat piece of metal. Replace the
switch plate, then retrace your steps to finish the job.

NOTE: When the door handle plate cracks, door closing stresses are
taken up by the surrounding panels. These panels are only weakly held
in by the heat-formed rivets, which are unable to take the stress. You
may find that the heads of several have broken off. To get the panels
to fit tightly again, you will need to build new rivet heads from expoxy.
Use fast-set epoxy so that you can hold the panels together while it cures.

Remove the door panel first. See Bay 13. I just did it this weekend but wil have to figure out how to remove the door handle and switches. It seems the fasteners holding them in are are welded plastic. Let me know if there is a way to remove them without breaking and also to replace them without sloppy play on the parts.
