I heard you are not suppost to turn volvo rotors. Mine are turned. Does anyone know if this is true?

Mine were badly warped after they were installed brand-new and then the car sat parked for two humid weeks. A piece of advice: don't let your car sit parked for two weeks after brand new pads and rotors have been installed! The shop turned them and smoothed them right out. Don't know how much life they have left but they're working fine now and I'm timing those stoplights.

Wow- never heard of that happening !!

I suspect you may have gotten defective rotors to begin with.

It does happen- I had to return a brand new Volvo oem rotor that had deep scoring in the surfaces.

I just can't figure why a new rotor would ward just sitting in the driveway ?

Dealer said that the pads were likely sitting on the surface of the rotors and corrosion formed around the edges of the pads, causing an uneven surface on the rotor that didn't wear off once the car was on the road again.

Why do dealers lie so much? They sound like politicians! Rotors warp because of too much heat and bad torque from lug nuts. They don't warp from parking! Even when there is a lot of rust build up, that doesn't cause warping. The rust will fall off after you use the brakes the first time.
If sitting ruined brakes, disks would have been pulled off the market decades ago.

turning rotors simply thins them out and since they are thin to begin with will tend to warp faster. Really depends on driving habits.

I have found that turning RWD rotors is a waste of time but FWD/AWD can be sucessfull if you don't drive in a spirited manner.

        So then...
Should I be concerned? Is this something I should bring up with the place I bought the car from? Is it SAFE to turn the rotors? I drive really fast on really tight corners and shitty pavement...

They can turn rotors within a specified thickness...they probably followed that. The problem is that volvo rotors aren't that thick to begin with. The only problem you may find is that the rotors warp...pulsating when stopping at higher speeds. They aren't very expensive to replace, so I alway replace every other pad change.

Yes, the minimum thickness is usually stamped right onto the rotor somewhere. You can confirm if someone cut them to below this thickness if you've got a caliper handy. They are not supposed to cut them below that, if a dealership or shop did I would take it back in a hurry, since that is just plain dangerous. Now, is it good to cut them at all? I wouldn't, not on an 850. The production thickness of these rotors isn't very far from the minimum already, so the most you will usually be able to get is maybe one cut. But, as has already been said, the chances of the rotor warping are much higher the thinner they get. Considering how cheap OEM rotors are for this car I wouldn't even think about it, just buy new ones.

The rotors on my vintage Mustangs were so thick you could use them as boat anchors. They could take 2 or 3 cuts without even thinking twice about it.
