Transmission fault - Auto g/box 850 1993

Help please!

I can select all the forward gears - however - on selecting reverse the car does one of three things:- 1. Does nothing (when hot). 2. Drives forward, clunks then goes violently into reverse (all tempretures). 3 Drives in reverse smoothly as hoped for (mostly when cold).

Does any one have any ideas where i should look to try and rectify this intermittant and annoying problem.

Your tranny fluid is pink and the dip stick says it is full, right? If you can wiggle the shift knob and make it go into reverse, then check your linkage. If you put the selector in reverse and get neutral, then step on the gas to get reverse(clunk!) then it is a bad tranny pump.

Rather than putting the selector in reverse and getting neutral the car moves forward then after stepping on the gas it clunks and reverses violently.

If it is the transmision pump? is it easy to change or repair?
