Transmission not transmitting 850 1994

I own a 1994 850 GLT. The automatic transmission seems to be locked in gear. It stalls just like you were in 3rd gear and droped the clutch. Is this a death-problem or a minor glitch? If death, can this model be converted to a manual trans. This car runs strong & is a 4th car (not primary transportation). Instead of junking I would like to have some fun if I spend any $$$. Any suggestions?

It may be as simple as flushing the tranny, or complex like electronic failure. There should be some trouble codes if the converter doesn't unlock, have you checked? Also, check the kick down cable to see if it is still attached to the TB. Lots of possibilities..
