I have a '93 850 GLT with 105,000 miles. I recently replaced the shocks all around with some KYBs. I was in need of new shocks, but over the last 2-3 months I've had an annoying issue with the suspension.

I can't describe the sound that well (some say it sounds like worn metal), but you'll hear the sound when going over certain bumps, even at low speeds. In fact, it's more a low speed issue than anything, and tends to go away at higher speeds. It's an issue when you drive over unsmooth roads and potholes, like what we have here in New York City.

All I can say is that it's pretty annoying to have to hear this!

I have heard some ideas on what it might be, but I'd like to hear some opinions from you guys.

If the whole front strut was not replaced and just the insert then it could be one of the upper strut bushings. Also may be the front (passenger side) engine mount. The mount bracket could be hitting the frame. Remove the right front wheel. Take off the wheel well shield plastic nuts (2) and lift up the access panel to see the vibration damper. The motor mount is rignt behind it. Jack up the engine a see if the rubber is split. Relatively easy repair.

If the osund originates from one of the rear wheel areas, I had a similar problem. It turned out to be the emergency brake assembly inside the wheel hub behind the rotor. After checking eveything out with the car on the ground, the only way we located it was to put the car on a hoist and pound upwards on the rear wheels.

Sounds like the sway bar link... known to make suspension clunk at low speeds, and the noise goes away at highway speeds.

Could be the rear upper shock mounts or front strut mounts? Unless they were replaced with the new shocks/struts.
