How to reset SERVICE light S40-V40

Hello All,

The service light on my 2001 V40 is lit for the first two minutes upon starting the car - apparently this is to remind me to take the vehicle in for routine service and is directly related to the mileage from the last service.

Question: Is there a way to reset the SERVICE light on the 2001 V40? Or will I have to fork out $200+ to purchase a special tool? Any specific non-Volvo store to purchase this tool.

Rick

You can get a complete OBD2 scanner for PC for 240$ at www.obd-2.com. This is a COMPLETE scanner that will allow you to do much more than just reset the service light (just ask if it can reset that light on Volvo first). It is compatible with any OBD2 compliant cars and upcoming CAN interfaces. You can get other scanner for cheaper prices if you don't want CAN support too.

    Ignition off
-Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
    -Ignition on
-The service reminder indicator (SRI) starts flashing when the reset button for the trip odometer has been pressed for 10 seconds
-Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when the reset has succeeded. The SRI indicator lamp goes out.

Note! If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds, the light is not reset. However it will stop flashing.

Thanks, that did the trick - now I don't have to spend 200+ bucks to reset the light. I was under the impression that same technique only worked for other pre 2000 Volvos . Thanks again.
