Lower engine pickup o-rings/gaskets Crumbly???? V70-XC70 2000

I am the guy with a hairline crack in the oil pan. See other post about that. Talking to the Volvo tech to determine the tricks in removal and replacement he said there are several seals inside to replace while your there..HE said many times he find them crumbling and worthless on the pick up tube... I did get the sealant and o-ring kit but am holding off on this hard repair for a little while. Any comments on how important those seals are and also on how hard it it to change pans or secrets.

Find a really good indie that knows Volvos and let him repair your car.

He's right, the o-rings fail often. As to "how hard", you need to unbolt the steering rack, motor mounts, support the engine and then lower the subframe. It's easy for a guy in a shop with the tools but maybe not for everyone else at home.
