Heads Up: Wiring Harness - Volvo hasn't learned lesson S70 1999

Went to replace plugs and found the outer casing on all the wires in the harness to the ignition coil packs brittle and crumbling in some spots.

Figured I'd be done with this crap after having a 740 ... DOH!

    NO, THAT's just the conduit! S70 1999

The plastic conduit is what's crumbling on these, NOT the wire insulation like on older Volvos.

For NOW at least. Won't be very long before wire insulation breaks off.

That is why it is important to replace the conduit. Need to prevent the wires from being in direct contact with the hor metal of the head.

I found same thing. Easy to fix. Get about 3-feet of the plastic conduit fromVolvo for a few dollars. Cut to fit and install. Conduit is spilt so not hard to put on. Took me about an hour.

Noticed the same on my 99. Hopefully it won't give me any problems.

I don't suppose that plastic is providing much heat rejection so I imagine this will just delay the inevitable (insulation on wires coming off).

I think I'll replace it as you mentioned and wrap it with that metal duct tape used on duct work carrying hot air.
