MAF Sensor S70

Has anyone had their MAF sensor out recently? Is the one platinum wire that you can easily see with the ceramic in the middle, Is that the wire that you clean if your MAF sensor is throwing a code, but the engine runs very smooth?

I am getting generic code P1171 from the Autozone code reader. I reset it using the battery unhook method, but the code came back in a day.

THANKS, MH

    MAF Sensor S70

I just replaced the module on mine this weekend. I had the same code from the AutoZone reader. Symptoms on my car were: CEL that would eventually disappear after approx 100 miles then re-appear again, slight decrease in mpg, idle would fluctuate and sometimes stall, I could sometimes feel the engine “hiccup” while at cruising speed. I performed an ignition system tune-up when the symptoms first appeared to rule out that possibility. So far the engine runs and idles much better, too early to see any change in mileage. To remove the unit, others have recommended using a heat gun or hair drier to soften the hose, I just did it with just a hot engine and wore mechanic's gloves.

    Good luck,
    Alfredo

THANKS, After you took the old MAF out, was there anything that gave you a clue as to what was wrong with it, by looking at it or by testing it? I want to be very careful before I buy an expensive non-returnable part. MH

Sorry for the late reply. No, there didn't appear to be anything visibly wrong with the module. I didn't bother running any tests on it with a voltmeter...after the car started running better I just tossed the old unit. My mileage has improved a bit but not to the standards I'm used to. I think I'll go ahead and just replace the front 02 sensor. Based on the threads I've read, it's about due for a new one at this time.

MAF Sensor and Throttle Control S70

This past weekend in addition to the check engine light, I got the ETS light. The engine started lurching and stalling and cutting OFF in traffic. Luckily, I discovered today that my "Certified" warranty has 4,000 miles and 4 months left before it expires and I was covered for a new MAF and a new Throttle Control that was installed today at the dealer. At first the tech installed the Throttle Control and did a test drive. The Check Engine light came on again and he read the codes again and replaced the MAF. Now the S-70 is running smooth again. THANKS for your help. MH

MAF Sensor and Throttle Control S70

I just went through the same routine (2000 S70 GLT) with the CEL, then the TCS light, and a few hiccups. The dealer convinced me to let them replace the throttle body and the MAF for a total of about $1200. I don't see why cleaning the sensor with some spray wouldn't have been a good idea to try first, but then I'd still have my $1200 and the dealer wouldn't. A complete rip-off.
